Located around Phahurat Road in Phra Nakhorn District and on the fringe of Chinatown, Phahurat market or widely known as Little India is a place to visit to buy fabrics and also to enjoy Indian cuisine. Most of the vendors at this market are Indians who do textile trading.
Phahurat road was constructed over a century ago during King Chulalongkornus Reign which after that the Indian community started to form. Also, the first Sikh temple known as Siri Guru Sabha was built in 1933 near the road. After visiting the temple in the morning, many Indians normally head to Phahurat market to buy spices or look for other Indian items before going back home.
Ready made goods including shoulder bags that are at incredibly low prices are also sold by many vendors. Aside from ready made goods and shoulder bags, trinkets, tour packages to India, household items, spices and delicious Indian desserts are also sold here. Many Indians in Thailand come and shop here for wedding gowns and wedding souvenirs.
Phahurat remains as a crowded market every day for there are not only the Indians who pay a visit here but also Thai people and tourists who are interested in Indian items.
So, if you are interested in Indian items, Phahurat Indian Market is really worth a visit!!
